The world is not black-and-white, there are no easy answers

With all the objections Americans might have to Islam, it is good to be reminded, now and then, that it is unwise, foolish, to lump any large group of people into one box and label them as all “the same”.

It is one thing to criticize an ideology, but people need to be judged as individuals, on a case-by-case basis. Yes, sometimes you do need to make generalizations, you do need to recognize patterns, but don’t forget that they are generalizations and try to stay open minded without being naive.

This doesn’t mean you ignore a genuine threat, but at the same time, it is good to remember that there are remarkable people in the world – people from all kinds of backgrounds and beliefs.
