Pakistani Taliban murder 43 people trying to get food from World Food Programme distribution point

Islamabad, Pakistan (CNN) — The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for Saturday’s blast in that Asian nation’s tribal region, an explosion at a food distribution point that killed at least 43 people and injured 90 others.

Azam Tariq, the central spokesperson for Pakistani Taliban, told CNN in a phone call that it targeted people who had formed what he called a pro-government and anti-Taliban group.

The blast took place about 600 meters from a U.N. World Food Programme distribution point at a security check post in Khar, according to Amjad Jamal, a spokesman for the agency. He said that more than 300 people were going through a security screening to get food and other items at the time of the explosion.

Khar is the headquarters of Bajaur Agency, one of the seven districts of Pakistan’s tribal region bordering Afghanistan. Jamal said that those who had been internally displaced during military efforts in Bajaur Agency get a month’s supply of food and other goods.

Dutch and British arrest suspected Islamic terrorists.

(CNN) — Dutch authorities have arrested 12 men of Somali origin they believe were about to carry out a terrorist attack, authorities said Saturday.

“The attack was said to be imminent so the national police started an investigation which led to the arrest of 12 Somalis later on Friday in Rotterdam,” de Bruin said. “We are not sure about what the target was, how they were going to carry out the attack or when.”

The men, between ages 19 and 48, were arrested in various locations. Police have searched a pawn shop, four homes and two hotel rooms, de Bruin said.

Six of the suspects live in Rotterdam and one is from Denmark. Some are Dutch citizens. They all are of Somali origin, de Bruin said.

War-torn Somalia has a virtually powerless central government and is home to several militant groups, including Al-Shabaab, which controls much of the country

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for several attacks, including a series of bombs that tore through an Ethiopian restaurant and a rugby center in the Ugandan capital of Kampala. Officials said the July 11 blasts, which killed 79 people, were probably set off by suicide bombers.

The United States this year charged several people with trying to funnel money or otherwise assist Somali extremists. Al-Shabaab has been linked to al Qaeda.

The report noted several cases of Dutch citizens trying to travel to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab, including four arrested in 2009 in Kenya.

The arrests in the Netherlands followed an unrelated sweep a few days before in the United Kingdom.

An operation Monday led by the British intelligence service, MI5, resulted in arrests of 12 suspects ranging in age from 17 to 28 in the cities of London, Stoke and Birmingham, England, as well as Cardiff, Wales.

A senior British official not authorized to speak on the record said the suspects were arrested on suspicion of “preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism in the UK,” but he also said the suspects were “aspirational” rather than equipped and “ready to go.”

Nigerian Villages and Holy Places Are Struck in Deadly Islamic Attacks over the Christmas weekend.

Once again the New York Times, in its cowardly appeasement of Islam, conveniently leaves out the fact that these murderous attacks were carried out by Muslims following the violent directives of Islam, taught in the Koran.

These were not “religiously motivated” attacks – that’s hiding behind a vague, general term. Let’s call it what it was: these were attacks motivated by intolerant, bigoted, hateful Islamic teachings.

Imagine the violent reaction if someone attacked mosques on an Islamic holiday. We’ve seen it before: the outrage, the violence, but it’s OK for them to attack other religions because the Koran teaches them that Islam is supposed to be dominant.

“JOS, Nigeria (Reuters) — Explosions in Nigeria’s central region killed 32 people on Friday, and six people died in attacks on two churches in the northeast of the country, officials said Saturday.

On Friday night, a series of bombs were detonated during Christmas Eve celebrations in villages near the central city of Jos, killing at least 32 people, the state police commissioner said; more than 50 were wounded in the attacks.

In the attacks on two churches, which appeared to be religiously motivated, at least six people were killed in the northeastern city of Maiduguri.

Attackers threw gasoline bombs late Friday at a church in the city, killing five people, including a Baptist pastor. A security guard at a nearby church died in a similar assault.”

Al Qaeda plot to poison salad bars and buffets

“Citing a “key Intelligence source,” CBS News reports that the federal government uncovered an al Qaeda plot earlier this year to poison salad bars and buffets at a variety of undisclosed locations. The report quotes from an al Qaeda website where terror leaders call for “…attacking the enemy with smaller but more frequent operations” to “add a heavy economic burden to an already faltering economy.”

Specifically, terrorists have proposed using the poisons ricin and cyanide, both of which can be fatal in small doses.”
