SANAA, Yemen — Yemen’s anti-government movement took up the issue of women’s rights in the conservative Muslim nation on Saturday, as thousands of demonstrators seeking the president’s ouster denounced his comments against the participation of women in protest rallies.

In a speech Friday, President Ali Abdullah Saleh said the mingling of men and women at protests in the capital was against Islamic law. Demonstrators, including thousands of women, responded by marching through the capital of Sanaa and several other cities, shouting: “Saleh, beware of injuring women’s honor.”

A crackdown on protesters by Saleh’s forces has killed more than 120 people, according to Yemeni rights groups, but has not deterred crowds from gathering.”

AMMAN: “Islamist protesters armed with swords, daggers and bats have attacked police in the Jordanian city of Zarqa, wounding 51 of them, and 32 other police suffered from tear-gas inhalation.

Lieutenant General Hussein Majali told a news conference: ”It was clear that the demonstrators had plans to clash with police. They carried swords and daggers and were provocative, seeking to drag police into a bloody confrontation.”

Members of the Salafist Islamist movement have been demonstrating over the past few weeks to demand the release of 90 prisoners, including Abu Mohammed al-Maqdessi, the one-time mentor of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the al-Qaeda leader killed in Iraq.”

An Egyptian-born man was not allowed to speak at a school after an Ohio school district bowed to pressure from pro-Islamic groups that he not be allowed to speak at an event on school property, because what he had to say was critical of Islam.

Usama Dakdok left the Islamic religion at age 11. He later moved to the US. Dakdok says he is very familiar with Islamic repression, having witnessed it first-hand growing up in Egypt.

According to the Mansfield News Journal, he was scheduled to address an event at the local high school. But the event had to be moved to a private office building following complaints from the NAACP and the Islamic Society of Mansfield.

Using one of their favorite tactics pro-Islamic groups played the “racist” card – which was particularly ridiculous in this case.

“I’m not a white guy! I’m an African. My father and my mother are both Egyptian. I’m 100-percent African,” he exclaims. “So for somebody to call me a racist, that means he is literally stupid.”

The truth, Dakdok said is that those groups labeled him “racist” for wanting to tell the truth about Islam.

The Egyptian-born man explains that he is anti-Islam, not anti-Muslim. “I personally believe there’s no such a thing as moderate Muslims because of the simple fact that there is no moderate Islam. I am 100-percent for Muslims — but I am 100-percent anti-Islam. Muslims are those who are the victims of the religion of Islam, the followers of this wicked cult.”

“Islamic extremists set fire to 59 churches and at least 28 homes in western Ethiopia over the last week, one Christian was killed and several others injured, Christian leaders said.

More than 4,000 Christians have been displaced in and around Asendabo, Jimma Zone as a result of attacks that began on March 2 after Muslims accused a Christian of desecrating the Quran by tearing up a copy, sources said.

After the destruction began at Asendabo, it spread to Chiltie, Gilgel Gibe, Gibe, Nada, Dimtu, Uragay, Busa and Koticha, as Muslim mobs in the thousands rampaged throughout the area, sources said.

“Police at the site are not taking any action – they just watch what is happening,” said another source. “It is difficult to estimate the attack in terms of deaths, since we have no access to any location.” The extremists also destroyed an Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church (EKHC) Bible school building and two church office buildings, the source said … The overall estimated cost, may be worth over 60 million birr [US$3.55 million].”

After a local imam issued a call to “Kill all the Christians” last week during Friday afternoon prayers, a Muslim mob attacked and burned down a church building in a village south of Cairo, and almost killed the parish priest, according to local sources.

The imam declared that Christians had “no right” to live in the village of Sool. The attack lasted from Friday evening through most of Saturday.

The opening of immigration floodgates came as Italy announced that it would grant travel permits to more than 20,000 Tunisian refugees who have reached its southernmost islands in recent weeks.

The Italian government said the temporary permits would grant the refugees freedom of movement within the visa-free Schengen area, but in reality most wanted to head to France.”

At first sight, for Islam to pitch itself as a “tolerant” religion might seem like a positive thing, right?

There are two problems, however. First, in many places and many times, followers of Islam have not been tolerant but oppressive. Second, even when Islam is being “tolerant” it implies a superior position that claims authority but chooses not to enforce it.

This planet needs more than tolerance. It needs mutual respect. The key problem, though, is that Islam does not respect other religions. It views them as inferior and false, needing to be suppressed or forced into submission.

“Keep in mind that the word “tolerance” (or “toleration”) has several meanings, especially in the context of European religious history.

When the Anglican church adopted the position of “toleration”, it meant that it allowed people of some non-Anglican Christian sects to practice their religion, but still considered them second-class citizens who were ineligible for political office.

Thomas Paine wrote about this in The Rights of Man. When you “tolerate” another person, that implies that you’re in a position of superiority over them. It implies that you have authority over them, but have magnanimously chosen not to exercise that authority.”

The world needs to begin holding imams accountable rather than blaming people who speak out against the barbaric teachings of Islam.

“What does it matter? I can do whatever I want with my property, is that right or wrong?”
