Indonesia mob attacks ‘heretic’ Muslims, kills 3

JAKARTA — “A machete-wielding mob of Muslims on Sunday attacked the home of a minority sect leader in central Indonesia, killing three and wounding six others, police and witnesses said.

Local police chief Lt. Col. Alex Fauzy Rasyad said about 1,500 people — many with machetes, sticks and rocks — attacked about 20 members of the Ahmadiyah Muslim sect who were visiting their leader in his house in Banten province on Indonesia’s main island of Java.

He said the crowd demanded that the sect members stop their activities, but the request was rejected. As a result, the crowd stabbed to death at least three men, destroyed the house and set fire to their cars and motorbikes.

The Islamic Defenders Front pressured local authorities late last year to shutter a Christian church located in a densely populated Muslim area, and assailants stabbed Christian worshipper and beat a minister in the head with a wooden plank as they headed to prayers.

The Setara Institute for Peace and Democracy, a human rights group, says attacks on religious freedom by hard-liners are steadily increasing.

It says in 2010 there were 64 incidents, ranging from physical abuse to preventing groups from performing prayers and burning houses of worship, up from 18 in 2009 and 17 in 2008.”

Coptic church ablaze in Egypt

“A Coptic church in the Egyptian town of Rafah bordering the Gaza Strip was in flames on Saturday (local time), with witnesses reporting a blast.

Witnesses said they saw flames coming out of the Mar Girgis church in Rafah after hearing an explosion. Armed men on motorbikes were spotted near the church, one of them said.

The church had been left without police guards at the time of the fire, witnesses said, after security forces disappeared en masse amid nationwide rallies calling for the resignation of president Hosni Mubarak.”

Stop ignoring extremist ideology – confront it in all its forms.

“Several terrorists involved in attacks or attempted plots in the U.S., Sweden, Denmark and Norway over the last two years have had links to Britain, or British-based clerics.

“If we are to defeat this threat, I believe it’s time to turn the page on the failed policies of the past,” Cameron said. “Instead of ignoring this extremist ideology, we — as governments and societies — have got to confront it, in all its forms.”

British Prime Minister David Cameron: We have been too tolerant

“Europe must stamp out intolerance of Western values within its own Muslim communities and far-right groups if it is to defeat the roots of terrorism, British Prime Minister David Cameron said Saturday.

Cameron told the annual Munich Security Conference that European governments have been too tolerant of some sectors of society that publicly oppose democracy or reject equal rights for all.

Faleh Almaleki intentionally hit and killed his daughter with a jeep – for becoming too Westernized

“PHOENIX — A woman who survived being run over by a Jeep driven by an Iraqi immigrant testified in his murder trial Thursday that he ignored her screams for him to stop as he sped across a parking lot toward her and the man’s daughter.

Amal Khalaf, 41, told jurors through an interpreter that she screamed “No! No! No! No!” at Faleh Almaleki and held up her hands before the two women were hit in October 2009.

Almaleki’s 20-year-old daughter, Noor Almaleki, died 13 days later. Khalaf suffered a broken hip and thigh and spent about two months in the hospital.

Authorities accuse Almaleki, 50, of intentionally targeting his daughter because she had brought the family dishonor by becoming too Westernized. He has pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident.”

“If Egypt gets democracy, will the Copts be included?”

by Captain H:

“If Egypt gets democracy, will the Copts be included?”

“Hmmm…more likely the Copts will learn how they say “pogrom” in Egypt.

The best case scenario the Copts could hope for is that they’d have an environment like the Christians in Iraq. Not good is an understatement.

A worse case scenario is that they’d be subject to an environment like the Christians, Jews and Bahais are subjected to in Iran. Even worse case.

Or like Christians are subjected to in the environment in Pakistan. Worst case.

And the West’s “progressives” like to call believing, practicing Jews and Christians fascist bigots…and the Muslims “victims” of “Islamophobia”. That’s reality turned upside down.”

Indonesian cleric charged with plotting terrorism

“JAKARTA — Prosecutors have formally charged Indonesia’s best-known radical cleric with planning terrorist attacks, a crime that carries a maximum penalty of death.

Abu Bakar Bashir, the 72-year-old spiritual head of the al-Qaida-linked Jemaah Islamiyah network, also was charged with helping fund a new terror cell in Aceh province and mobilizing foot soldiers.

Prosecutors presented the indictment Wednesday to the South Jakarta District Court. They said 138 witnesses will testify at the trial, which is expected to begin next week.

Militants linked to Jemaah Islamiyah have carried out a series of attacks in Indonesia that have killed more than 260 people in less than a decade.”

Thousands in Pakistan rally against American who defended himself against armed attackers

Supporters of Pakistani religious party Jamat-e-Islami chant slogans behind a banner reading, "hang the American killer of innocents" - evidently, in Pakistan, a couple of guys on a motorcylce with weapons drawn, rushing toward a person, is considered to be in the "innocent" category. It's easy to remember if you just remember this little guideline: Muslim = innocent, non-Muslim=Guilty

LAHORE — Hard-line Islamic leaders on Sunday rallied at least 15,000 people against an American official arrested in the shooting deaths of two Pakistanis and warned the government not to cave in to U.S. pressure to release the man.

Sunday’s demonstration was organized by Jamaat-ud-Dawa, which is widely believed to be a front for the militant group that attacked the Indian city of Mumbai in 2008 and killed 166 people. The rally was originally called to protest changes to Pakistani laws that mandate the death penalty for insulting Islam. But many of the speakers used the opportunity to stoke anger over the recent shootings.
